The year 2025 is rich in anniversaries: 30 years since the Beijing Declaration, 25 years since UN Security Council Resolution 1325, 5 years until 2030, and 15 years since the establishment of UN Women. The anniversaries are perceived as “calls” to unity, to action, “powerful reminders that, as the Beijing Declaration affirms, women’s rights are human rights”. The 69th session of the Commission on the Status of Women opened, at which member states adopted an important document entitled “Political Declaration on the Occasion of the Thirtieth Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women”. The Political Declaration aims to respect, protect and promote the rights, equality and empowerment of all women and girls. What new does the adopted Political Declaration bring to the series of many international documents dedicated to equality of women and men in societies?
