The article is devoted to the study of the impact of changes in the structure of the population by marital status on the effectiveness of demographic policy. Based on the analysis of census data, the author concluded that many people postpone marriage for a long time. Therefore, there are more and more men and women who have never been married, not only between the ages of 20 and 29, but between 30 and 39 and 40 and 49. The number of childless people, including among married couples, is also increasing. The author believes that demographic policy in Russia influences the increase in the average number of children of couples who already have at least one child, but does not contribute to the creation of new families. The effectiveness of this policy is reduced due to the decreasing number of married women with children. The author proposes to introduce additional demographic policy measures aimed at removing obstacles to marriage.
