Shvedova N. A. Celebrating the anniversary: gender equality issues among UN priorities, p.16-29


In the arsenal of the most important international events and legislative initiatives that formed the foundation and the architecture of the building “gender equality and justice”
for the world community, we should mention such events as the fourth World Conference on Women, which adopted the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (1995), birth of United Nations Security Council resolution 1325 on women, peace and security (2000), the creation of UN Women (2010) and the adoption of the Sustainable Development Agenda for the period until 2030 (2015). All these landmark events, counting each their own anniversaries, coincide with the 75th anniversary of the United Nations itself. Obviously 2020 is a stimulating opportunity to take stock, to understand what place gender equality issues occupy among UN priorities, and what the role of the UN today in promoting ideals and principles of gender equality is. The article attempts to find answers to these questions.
