This paper deals with the place and the role of the widow as a part of the history of peasant women’ everyday life in Central Russia in the pre-reform and post-reform era. Particular attention is paid to historical and ethnographic data collected by the informants of the Ethnographic Bureau of Prince. V. N. Tenishev, changes in the position of widowed women as a result of modernization processes are revealed, the description and analysis of rites and rituals details, their interpretation in terms of the gender-based approach to family history are presented. read in PDF>>>
