This paper deals with the place and the role of the widow as a part of the history of peasant women’ everyday life in Central Russia in the pre-reform and post-reform era. Par￾ticular attention is paid to historical and ethnographic data collected by the informants of the Ethnographic Bureau of Prince. V. N.
