On materials of the regional archives (the State archive of the Kursk region and Kursk
state museum of local lore) the article describes the features of the historical image of the woman merchant of provincial Russia in 60—90-th years of the XIX century. As the research-models the representatives of two generations of merchant’s family Gladkovyh (one of the most influential families of the Kursk province in the second half of the XIX-th century),which went through like all merchants, significant changes of life style in the conditions of
post-reform Russia in 60—90-th years of the XIX century were taken. Reconstruction ofthe «women's history» of family Gladkovyh breaks the stereotype perception of the «women's world» of provincial merchant class as a reserved, hard-hierarchical one, the space of which excluded non-standard behavior of women, became isolated only in private life. read in PDF>>>
