This article presents a description and analysis of gender-specific characteristics (similarities and differences between men and women) in assessments of the potential of the established civilizational complex, including the socioeconomic condition, culture, and development prospects of a local territory within the Russian region. The novelty of this research lies in its microsociological analysis of men’s and women’s perceptions of the characteristics of the civilizational potential of the Russian region, as well as in the differentiation of gender-based assessments regarding resources and development prospects in various spheres of public life, civic engagement, and local communities as reflections of its civilizational complex. The empirical basis of this research consists of the results of a questionnaire survey conducted in 2024 in municipalities of the Republic of Karelia (N = 601) and the Novgorod Region (N = 600). The civilizational structure of the studied regions in the Northwest of the Russian Federation, as viewed through the lens of men’s and women’s perceptions, is characterized by the simultaneous presence of gender structuring alongside gender neutrality/egalitarianism, which exhibit varying degrees of stability, manifestations, and modes of coexistence within settlements. The state of the socio-structural profile of the civilizational complex in these local territories is based on the reproduction of socio-gender differentiation of labor by occupation, as well as on the disparity in men’s and women’s incomes and levels of financial well-being (as measured objectively and assessed subjectively). The institutional aspects (economic and social infrastructure, labor market) of the civilizational development profiles of these regions receive largely similar assessments among men and women, a phenomenon primarily driven by shared living conditions and common challenges that lack a rigid social-gender bias in contemporary Russian society. However, the research also revealed the existence of gender-specific challenges regarding access to quality medical care and public transportation—challenges that embody the intersection of economic inequality between the sexes and the sociocultural principles governing the functioning of institutions.

The relevance of this study stems from the growing significance of the female population in local communities. Currently, it is women who are actively involved in addressing an everincreasing number of local social issues; they can and should also play a more active role in local governance. This article presents an analysis of the views of a community of female experts: representatives of the nonprofit sector, municipal public chambers and councils, municipal employees responsible for engaging with civil society, and socially active women among the educated urban population. The data presented demonstrate a connection between public trust in local public authorities, increased civic engagement, and the role of active, enterprising women in local communities who are involved in the activities of local self-government bodies, third-sector organizations, and social service institutions.

This article examines the process of recruiting women into the information and communication technology sector. The results are interpreted from the perspective of Pierre
Bourdieu’s theoretical approach. Based on the author’s empirical study using biographical interviews, several aspects of school education have been identified that contribute to the process of career orientation among girls. First and foremost, inclinations and interests in the study of school subjects are interpreted as a cognitive element of habitus. As they progress through the school curriculum, female students become aware of their inclinations, and favorite subjects emerge that shape their career strategies. In addition to the role of subjects directly related to the field of information and communication (mathematics, computer science, physics), the study highlights the role of foreign language learning as linguistic capital. The article highlights the contribution of the teacher, who acts as a guide to the world of academic subjects, capable of stimulating interest, and as an agent of career guidance during the stage of choosing a university and major. Participation in academic competitions and receiving a medal upon graduation are identified as additional factors in the recruitment process. Regarding academic competitions, the issue of initiative is important, and this initiative can come from either the teacher or the student. Participation in academic competitions and winning medals in high school are viewed as a form of cultural capital. The author reached the following conclusion: as students master academic subjects with the teacher’s guidance, a specific habitus is formed, which serves as the foundation for the thought processes involved in deciding on postsecondary educational and career strategies.

This article examines gender differences in the political preferences, value orientations, and social attitudes of young people in contemporary Russia aged 18—35. The relevance of this article stems from the growing “gender ideological divide” documented in both international and domestic studies. The empirical basis includes data from two surveys: the All-Russian study “Social Contract-2024” (N = 1,000) as part of a Russian Science Foundation project, and the authors’ study “Social Values and Political Preferences of Youth in Contemporary Russia” (N = 365, 2025). According to the study’s findings, young women are significantly more likely to identify with liberal views (27.1 % versus 11.6 % among men), whereas men tend toward conservative and state-protective attitudes. The largest gender gaps were observed regarding women’s representation in politics
(49.8 percentage points), equal pay (31.9 percentage points), and attitudes toward authoritarian rule (15.5 percentage points). The authors identified a paradox: women with liberal gender views demonstrate a higher commitment to traditional values, namely national unity and moral ideals. Correlation analysis revealed a moderate link between ideological self-identification and value orientations, reflecting a mixed configuration of young people’s views. The Russian data generally align with global trends but exhibit distinct national characteristics. The findings support the need for a differentiated approach in developing youth policy and civic education programs that take gender into account.

In recent decades, there has been a significant increase in interest in the phenomenon of women’s entrepreneurship worldwide. This trend has been accompanied by a rise in the number of scholarly publications on this topic. The bibliometric meta-review of Russian scientific research aimed to identify and systematize the main trends in the study of women’s entrepreneurship. The article presents general conclusions. First, women’s entrepreneurship in Russia is increasingly viewed in publications as a dynamic and growing segment of the entrepreneurial sector, characterized by a diversity of research approaches and methods (including the study of socioeconomic conditions, the analysis of psychological and motivational factors, and the evaluation of the effectiveness of government support and initiatives for women entrepreneurs). Second, the research examines approaches to researching the barriers faced by women entrepreneurs, including social and role-based stereotypes, a lack of knowledge and experience, and limited opportunities for networking. Third, the article outlines two stages in the development of research on this topic (“the quiet revolution” and “the explosion” of research). And, fourth, it describes the challenges involved in developing an interdisciplinary approach to the study of women’s entrepreneurship. The authors formulated a general conclusion: women’s entrepreneurship has significant potential for economic growth and development; however, to realize this potential, further improvements are needed in scientific research, government policy, and institutional support.

The importance of family ties is reflected in many cultures. Modernization, urbanization, and changing intra-family roles in the modern world are influencing socialization processes and traditional support systems. The family performs a number of functions that are key to society; among the most important are reproductive, educational, regulatory, and sexual functions, which are currently undergoing transformation. Economic difficulties, migration, and cultural shifts have recently begun to threaten family ties, particularly among young people. Marriage and parenthood are often viewed by young people as the result of achieving financial maturity. The study examined trends
among Russian youth regarding family, marriage, childbearing, relationships, and responsibility. The study revealed trends indicating a shift in the importance of family as an unquestionable value among contemporary youth, an increase in the preferred age for starting a family, and a certain shift from a focus on small families toward large families. The Russian government is actively working to strengthen traditional family values and support young families. Nevertheless, to strengthen the modern family, it is necessary to implement educational programs aimed at preparing young people for family life. Such programs should be introduced in high school.

The article explores the phenomenon of salon and female diplomacy as the manifestation of soft power providing the example of the activities of Dorothea (Darya) Lieven. The international political realities of the 1810—830`s are analyzed on the basis of correspondence of D. Lieven’s with her brother Alexander Benckendorff and other statesmen of the Russian Empire. The article examines the princess's contribution to the formation of Russian foreign policy in the first half of the 19th century and comes to the conclusion that the information sent by D. Lieven from London was a unique source, thanks to which the Foreign Ministry of the Russian Empire had a detailed understanding of the Britain’s position on all items on the international agenda. The article emphasizes that women, not having the opportunity to become career diplomats, played a significant
role in diplomatic activities and had a considerable impact on the development of international political processes. The state, in its turn, using women's and salon diplomacy as a form of soft power, constructed the necessary socio-cultural image by attracting the attention of the foreign public.

This article presents a study of the geographic mobility of Tatar women from the educated classes and their influence on Russia’s social modernization. The study is based on the biographies of Fatykha Aitova, Zukhra Akchurina, Mukhlisa Bubi, Abruy Sayfi, Khadija Yamasheva, Fatima-Farida Nauruzova, Sarya Shakulova, Sahipdzhamal Gizatullina-Volzhskaya, and other Tatar women. The Tatar Muslim elite (merchants and clergy) engaged in a wide range of marital alliances, as they were guided by their own traditions as well as family and corporate interests. This influenced women’s mobility, which increased at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Tatar women connected the Tatar communities of the Volga-Ural region with Central Russia, Siberia, Crimea, and other regions. Of course, women’s travel was limited by male influence, as dictated by the Russian passport system. However, following the 1905—1907 revolution, the number of working, unmarried women increased. Some Tatar newspapers supported the emancipated behavior of Tatar women, and their publications served as a guide for young women. The article recounts an episode involving the scandalous case of the poet Zahida Burnasheva. In 1915, she ran away from her parents and became an activist in the Tatar women’s movement. The author concludes that Tatar women became champions of new ideas and strategies. Some of them had capital inherited from their fathers and the support of their families, which enabled them to launch various social projects (opening schools, shelters, charitable organizations, newspapers, etc.). The everyday behavior and social activities of Tatar women also served as an example for society.

Based on a collection of archival materials, this article examines the process of the mass replacement of male workers. It analyzes the scale and sector-specific characteristics
of this process, examines the mechanisms of accelerated vocational training, and discusses changes in the age and skill composition of the workforce. The article highlights the difficulties women faced in mastering traditionally “male” professions, as well as their participation in innovation and management activities. It analyzes the positive outcomes of this workforce replacement (maintaining military production) and the problematic aspects (distortion of the skill structure, low average skill level among female workers). The article concludes that the involvement of women in industry was systematic, that prewar notions of “male” and “female” professions were dismantled, and that the groundwork was laid for women to become firmly established in industrial production in the postwar decades.
